FEATURED IS A RARE VINTAGE 1930 ART COLORED POSTCARD OF THE STORIED & “SPORTY” BAYSHORE COUNTRY CLUB AT MIAMI BEACH… IT HAS IT ALL: GOLFERS IN VINTAGE GOLF ATTIRE, PALM TREES, AND A POLK-DOTTED UMBRELLA UNDER WHICH A LADY APPEARS TO BE DISPENSING SOMETHING… EITHER DRINKS OR TICKETS (OR BOTH)! Gene Sarazen, fresh off his July, 1922 win of the US Open (beating Bobby Jones and John Black by one stroke) would play the first round of golf played at Bay Shore that November! Photo taken by Gleason Waite G. Romer, Miami’s premier photographer from the time he arrived on that city’s scene in 1925. The Bayshore Country Club is what is known today as the Miami Beach Golf Club. It was the brain child of developer Carl Fisher. Work started on the course in 1921 as part of his vision for the Alton Beach subdivision. British golf course designer Willie Park was brought in to lay out the course. Again, in November, 1922, the world’s top golfer at the time, Gene Sarazen, was the first to play a round at the Bay Shore Country Club. The course opened to the public in 1923. The course was given a new lease on life with a total overhaul in 2022. It is a true oldie, but goodie. And this is one rare and important card… PC “new” to extent it is New Old Stock, has not been used in any manner, and remains in MINT condition. This pristine postcard comes from the Curt Teich Archives. The card has been in our possession for approximately 15+ years… Long before the Curteich digitally archived images found their permanent home with The Newberry Institute. At the time of our acquisition, the Lake County Discovery Museum in IL was the custodian of the company’s records, having served in that capacity since 1982. Check out our other offerings as we get them listed. We do have tens of thousands of postcards from the Curt Teich Archives and will be listing them as well as tens of thousands of others… All types and locales. If you’re looking for a certain topic, let us know. “The Mermaid” is also still a bonded auctioneer and real estate broker who spent the past “many” decades’ specializing in books, ephemera, estates, and real estate. Health issues have brought us back. If we wouldn’t add it to our own collections, we won’t sell it. Hope you find something that you want, need, and, most important of all, will enjoy! Thanking you for your patronage in advance… As to our “standard operating procedures”. It depends on the given scenario. That circumstance involves a fluid dynamic the specifics of which may not be clear until point of sale. WE ARE GLAD TO BE BACK!
