I’m certain that Samuel Schmucker, one of the most prolific and talented artists of vintage holiday Winsch postcards, has provided this wonderful lithographic illustration of a lovely post-Victorian era lady wearing a shroud and holding a jack’o-lantern. Two owls can be seen perched on one of the nearby tree branches as the full moon rises over the horizon behind them. Printed in pre-WWI Germany by John Winsch in 1911, this beautifully embossed card has been posted and has a 1911 cancellation across the one-cent stamp on the divided “Winsch” back.
